EHR-Africa can keep working when your internet connection is unreliable or temporarily unavailable. This guide explains how to use the offline features so you can continue documenting, prescribing, and managing patients even when the connection drops.

To use EHR-Africa offline, you need to prepare once while you have a good connection:

1. Log in while online

2. Visit the pages you use most

Once you have logged in and loaded the app while online, you can continue working when the connection is lost:

What you can do offline

View patients Open your patient list and patient records.
Add or edit patients New or updated information is saved and will sync when you are back online.
Document clinical notes Write and save notes; they will sync when the connection returns.
Prescribe medications Create prescriptions; they will sync when you are back online.
Manage appointments Add or edit appointments; changes will sync later.
Record payments Payment data is saved locally and syncs when you reconnect.
Enter lab results Lab data is stored locally and syncs when online.

  1. Prepare before field visits – Log in and open the main pages you need before leaving a location with good internet.
  2. Use the same device – Offline data is stored on the device you use. Use the same computer, tablet, or phone for consistency.
  3. Check the status indicator – If the app shows an offline or β€œwill sync when online” message, your changes are being saved and will sync later.
  4. Avoid logging out offline – If possible, stay logged in until you are back online so your session remains valid.
